Eventide Brings Back Legendary 1986 Software 'Music Mouse' for Modern Computers

Eventide has released 'Music Mouse', a software instrument that generates real-time melodies and harmonies through mouse movements.

Music Mouse translates the horizontal and vertical movements of a computer mouse or trackpad into independent musical lines, enabling contrapuntal performance.

Built-in harmonic logic keeps everything musically coherent, so users can improvise and explore ideas without any prior music theory knowledge. MIDI output allows integration with external instruments and DAWs.

Music Mouse is a modern recreation of the original program developed by composer Laurie Spiegel in 1986. It includes parameter presets crafted by Spiegel herself, along with synth presets derived from her original DX7 and TX7 patches.

The software supports up to 4 simultaneous notes and 10 pattern sequences, with four rhythmic treatments: Chord, Arpeggio, Line, and Improv. Six harmonic modes are available: Chromatic, Octatonic, Middle Eastern, Diatonic, Pentatonic, and Quartal.

Music Mouse is priced at $29. For more details, visit the Eventide website.
